2025 - A New Shed

2025 - A New Shed

I have a small shed next to my shop. I have a hole from my shop to the shed because that is where I keep my dust collection. As a hand tool woodworker, I rarely need a dust collector but when I use my bandsaw or thickness planer, I definitely need it.

Anyway, the shed was built on treated 4x4's and believe it or not, the 4x4's were rotting away along with the lower corner. Not good. I decided that it was time to build it properly, on a foundation and everything.

I don't have a lot of pictures of the demo but the old shed had a gap of about 6 inches at the back and a few inches on the side. It was basically filled with leaves decaying along with the 5 rat skeletons. Good times!

Here are the pieces of the old shed
Here is the last piece of the old shed, rotting away.
Out with the old!
I'm sure I'm doing it wrong but here is the footing all formed
Xander and Mitchell are helping mix the concrete and load up the forms
All done with the base
Here it is with the form gone
With the 'footing' done, I started framing everything.
One of the tricky bits is the change in roof slope
Put the rebar in, ready for the slab pore
Framed the new roof
This time, it was Xander and Regan helping mix and pore concrete
Not bad for my first try and making a slab. Smooth though not as flat as it should be
Shingling the new roof
Using the old siding to finish the outside of the shed
The doors are done and painted
Even integrated a gutter for the new shed which will hopefully keep erosion at bay
