About this site
This Week in Wood is an independent website launched in July 2025 for the purpose of discussing Woodworking and Woodworking Tools, sharing Woodworking projects and techniques, and perhaps discussing Hobby's peripherally related to Woodworking such as laser printers, 3D printers and leatheworking. This may also include links that are related the above topics.
I, like many, began woodworking with my Father. He would let me follow him around like a puppy dog "helping" him do various projects. His patience was immense. Some of my best memories are just watching New Yankee Workshop with him on Saturday afternoons.
I did some small project ranging from a locking box for my moped which I used to commute back and forth to college, built in storage for Kathy's and mine first home and probably a few I'm forgetting.
I started acquiring tools when I moved to the Pacific Northwest but really didn't start serious woodworking until the late 1990's and early 2000's.
Early on, I was mostly focused on woodworking using power tools including table saws, band saws, routers, joiners, planers. In the 2000's I realized my shop wasn't fun to work in so I downsized to using mostly hand tools. Over the last few years I've added power tools back into my shop in a strategic way but still have a strong emphasis on hand tool builds.
